Hurricane Harvey, with 51 inches of rain, was the first major hurricane to make landfall in the United States since Hurricane Wilma. Located in Southeast Texas and Southwest Louisiana, Hurricane Harvey destroyed at least 150,000 properties, according to the Federal Emergency Management Agency and it was categorized as a level 4 storm. Harvey was developed from a tropical wave and the day after it crossed through the Windward Islands sending it to Texas. There have been at least 18 missing people in Houston and there are still more bodies being found. There have been at least 70 people who have been killed by drowning, getting crushed by trees, and other hurricane related deaths. Harvey has caused major flooding and 40,000 homes are heavily damaged from the flood. Many people have had to leave all of their belongings in their homes and could come home to it destroyed. Adding to the hurricane there has been more than a dozen tornadoes that have hit Texas and approximately 32,000 people were displaced in shelters across the state. Many organizations such as The Red Cross have started to help the affected victims. They have provided shelter, food and emergency support for those who have been affected. The Red Cross and many other organizations have been receiving many donations to help families that have lost all of their belongings and have had their homes destroyed.
