The human body is over 50% water. There are many different opinions regarding the correct amount of water to consume per day. One’s recommended water intake depends on several components such as health and activity level.

Water is one of the most important factors of living. People lose water in their body everyday through ordinary activities such as walking, working, and even breathing. When someone is lacking water they get dehydrated. Dehydration also disrupts one’s metabolism: “Some adults may need more or less, depending on how healthy they are, how much they exercise, and how hot and dry the climate is”(https://www.webmd.com/a-to-z-guides/tc/drinking-enough-water-topic-overview#1). “The health authorities commonly recommend eight 8-ounce glasses, which equals about 2 liters, or half a gallon” (https://www.healthline.com/nutrition8/how-much-water-should-you-drink-per-day).

Some people also think that a person has to drink half of their body weight in ounces. This means that If someone weighs 140 pounds, then they should drink 70 ounces of water. The more water someone drinks decreases risks of kidney stones and of bladder and colorectal cancer. Overall, “Drinking more water may help with several health problems”(https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/how-much-water-should-you-drink-per-day).
