Tarbut V’Torah’s Winter Sports Success

This past 2013-2014 Winter Sports season at Tarbut V’Torah was the most successful in the school’s history. Each Winter Sports team, Boys’ and Girls’ Varsity Basketball and Soccer, not only made CIF playoffs, but also finished next to or at the top of their leagues.

TVT Varsity Boys’ Basketball went an undefeated 10-0 in the Express League and were 14-8 overall. Jacob A, Junior Guard for the Lions, was named the league’s Most Valuable Player, and Bennett S was named First Team All-League, and Alton Heller and Ryan M were named Second Team All-League. Jeremy Neutel was the All-League Honorable Mention for TVT. Coach Stopnitzky was named the top coach in the league in his first season coaching TVT Basketball. The Boys’ Basketball team was knocked out of CIF playoffs in the quarter finals to Santa Clarita Christian.

TVT Varsity Girl’s Basketball came second in league behind Eastside Christian with a record of 9-1, and an overall record of 12-6. The Girls team had over 50% of their team make all-league, with Tal A and Erin S making First Team All-League, and Lauren C making Second Team, with Kylie G being name Honorable Mention. The Girls’ playoff run was ended by the California School for the Deaf, with a loss of 49-38.

The TVT Boys’ Varsity Soccer also came in second place in their league behind Avalon (who finished first overall in the division) with a record of 4-5-0 and an overall record of 9-10. Evan B and Matthew R were named First Team All-League while Ryan K, Noah S and Robert T were named Second Team All-League, with Ari Z as the Honorable Mention. The team lost in the first round of CIF playoffs to Southlands Christian.

Lastly, TVT’s Girls’ Varsity Soccer had the most successful season in the team’s history, finishing 10-1-1 in league play and 14-4-1 overall, wining the San Joaquin League by three games. Sophomore Carly M was named the League MVP, while Sophie C and Elle P were named First Team All-League and Emma M, Natalie M and Madison K were named Second Team All-League and Cara W was the Honorable Mention. The girls lost in the quarterfinals to Santa Clarita Christian, ending their historic season.
